More about Alphonse Mucha: Alphonse Mucha, whose art is synonymous with Art Nouveau style, had a career filled with fascinating projects - and an unexpected journey to fame. In 1894, while working in Paris, Mucha happened to be in the right place at the right time when a rush order came in for a new poster for French actress Sarah Bernhardt’s new play “Gismonda.” The printer, who knew Mucha, turned to him in desperation to create the poster over the Christmas holidays. Mucha’s resulting design, with its graceful lines and innovative details, captivated the public - making him an overnight sensation. This chance opportunity also launched his relationship with Bernhardt, which led to many other such commissions. Beyond his famous posters, Mucha’s work was incredibly diverse. He created intricate jewelry, book illustrations and elaborate stage sets, and even designed stamps and bank notes over the course of his incredible artistic career.
